Many a time, customers would like to experience the look and feel of their own language. Unicode SMS allows you to send messages in any foreign and regional language other than English. Foreign Languages such as Chinese, Cyrillic, Arabic or Thai, and similarly regional languages like Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, etc contains non-standard characters and must be sent using the Unicode standard. Unicode can represent any character in the world but occupies more characters within the SMS text. As such Unicode messages are limited to 70 characters and 2000 characters after concatenation. The character limitations and the applicable charges are mentioned in the “i” button.

The following procedure explains the procedure of creating a Unicode message. To send a Unicode message, click on the side menu, choose the “Send SMS” option and click on “Unicode SMS”. The following are terms you see on the screen.

  1. To Numbers

This pins down to the basic concept of entering the message recipient details. 

  • write the recipients’ number(s) to whom you want to send messages using the enter key (no comma separated). 

Note: You can send up to 50,000 messages in a single batch.

The following will help you understand the common application terms:

You can click on the Count button to calculate the total number of recipient numbers that have been added

Sender ID:  To send an SMS campaign, select the desired Sender ID from the left menu.

  1. Templates: For the Sender ID selected, the templates that have already been mapped will appear in the drop-down menu provided, for you to select. You can choose the desired template and the Template ID will automatically populate accordingly.

  2. Favorites: You can choose any favorite templates from the drop-down. Favorites are the pre-defined templates to be used within messages.

  3. Campaign Name: Write a unique name for your message campaigns. To filter your Sent messages, a relevant campaign name plays a key role.

  4. TemplateID: This refers to the ID assigned for a specific template, which you would receive at the time of registering the template on the DLT platform. You can have this automatically populated by selecting a template from the templates drop-down, or enter it manually here.

  5. Message: Write your text message here. If a template is selected, then the message content will auto-populate here. 1 SMS can contain a maximum of 70 characters and 2000 characters after concatenation. After entering your message, the number of characters of the entered message will be displayed. You can click on the “i” icon to check Unicode SMS charges and character limitations

  6. Flash (checkbox): You can tick this checkbox to send flash SMS for instant delivery. It will appear on the recipient notification screen directly rather than the inbox. If the recipient accepts, then it will be added to the inbox automatically.

  7. Signature: If you have added any signatures to your account, you can directly add in your message by choosing from the left menu. Signatures can help your customers identify your brand.


Once your message campaign content is ready, click on “Send Now” button to trigger the campaign. You can also schedule your SMS campaign at a specified time through “Schedule Now” button
